3D Modeling is used in a variety of applications to make computer representations of physical objects. 3D Modeling is a subset of Computer Aided Design (CAD), in which a computer is used to assist in the design process. CAD is used in a variety of applications, especially when it comes to designing parts on the computer to assist in manufacturing or visualizing those parts. The computer model is used to communicate dimensions, types of materials, etc. anyone viewing the design and can be used to create control paths for Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines.
3D Modeling makes the product design process more efficient. 3D Modeling programs allow you to create and visualize final products, modify and optimize designs and easily document designs, measurements and materials.
From the 3D model created, it is possible to convert the virtual object into a physical object using Additive Manufacturing techniques. 3D Printing allows you to create scale models to analyze the design and aesthetics of the designed models.
3D Modeling and 3D Printing, used at RIAMAR, allows RIAMAR’s Design and Engineering Department to design its new models using the most recent Engineering techniques for the construction of vessels with modern design and advanced features and performance.
In this field, the solid partnership that RIAMAR has with the DESIGN STUDIO of FEUP, Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, and with INEGI, Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering, allows the use of the most modern Design techniques and thus achieve the highest standards of Design and Technology.
